Combustible Dust Minimum Ignition Temperature Tester
This advanced testing equipment determines the minimum ignition temperature of combustible dust clouds in heated environments, helping prevent spontaneous combustion in industrial settings.
Product Overview
The Minimum Ignition Temperature Tester evaluates dust cloud sensitivity to ignition in heated environments. When combustible dust is exposed to sufficiently high air temperatures, spontaneous combustion can occur. This method precisely determines the minimum ignition temperature threshold for dust clouds.
Compliance Standards
- EN 50281-2-1: Methods for determining minimum ignition temperatures of dust
- ASTM E1491-06: Standard test method for minimum auto ignition temperature of dust clouds
- ISO/IEC 80079-20-2:2016: Explosive atmospheres - Material characteristics - Combustible dusts test methods
- GB/T 16429: Minimum ignition temperature of dust cloud testing methods

Testing Procedure
Testing is conducted in the Godbert-Greenwald furnace, which consists of vertical quartz tubes with a bottom opening. The glass observation chamber connects to the sample fixing device at the top. Compressed air from the storage tank disperses dust into the heating furnace and sample fixing device, exposing it to the observation chamber and quartz tubes. The furnace is mounted on a holder, allowing observation of ignition phenomena from the bottom. Testing begins at 500°C, with temperature decreased in 10°C increments until ignition no longer occurs.
Results Interpretation
The lowest temperature at which ignition occurs is recorded as the minimum ignition temperature of the dust cloud. This critical data determines whether equipment surface temperatures can cause spontaneous combustion of exposed dust, serving as an essential standard for equipment selection in dusty environments. Safety margins should be applied when using minimum ignition temperature data due to small-scale test limitations.
