The SPI Flammability Tester is a precision research instrument built for R&D teams developing new vinyl film, flame retardant additives, and modified plastic film materials. Operating in accordance with CFR 16 Part 1611, it creates repeatable 45° flame exposure conditions that allow researchers to quantify the ignition speed and burning rate of different vinyl formulations. It enables direct comparison of how raw material ratios, flame retardant additives, film thickness, and surface treatments affect the flammability performance of vinyl plastic film.
The standard test method requires 5 longitudinal and 5 transverse specimens, with the average burning rate not exceeding 1.2 in/s. A 0.01 s high-precision timer and non-contact photoelectric sensor record accurate burning duration for comparative experiments. The adjustable flame, controlled via flow valve, lets researchers fine-tune flame intensity for exploratory contrast tests. An advanced thread-locking sample holder enables fast switching between specimens — ideal for large batches of comparative tests in material development. The enclosed cabinet protects the laboratory environment and prevents cross-contamination between test samples.
